Kunalee Grouse. Lagopus Persicus
New York: D.G. Elliot, 1865.
(Kunalee Grouse. Lagopus Persicus) A fine hand colored lithograph of the Kunalee Grouse (Lagopus Persicus), double elephant folio (23 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches). A beautiful image drawn by J. Wolf for one of Daniel Giraud Eliott's most splendid great monographs, A Monograph of the Tetraoninae, or Family of the Grouse, published in New York in 1865. Elliot was known as one of the founders of the American Museum of Natural History in New York and of the American Ornithologist's Union. As a note of interest the print includes a statement of authorship in the lower left corner, reading " Drawn from Nature by J. Wolf, London 1863". The name of J.T. Bowen, the lithographer, is printed to the lower right corner of the page. Also includes the initials (C.T.) of the artist who traced the drawing onto the lithographic stone to the bottom right corner, just below the image. Minimal spotting to lower blank margin, else the print is bright and clean, in near fine condition. nrfn.
