Gallinago Wilsoni) A fine chromolithograph of The American Snipe (Gallinago Wilsoni) by Alexander Pope Jr., a renowned American sporting artist who specialized in animal and still-life paintings (20 x 14 inches ; 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches full sheet) . Pope published two important portfolios of chromolithographs after his water colors: Celebrated Dogs of America and Upland Game Birds and Waterfowl of the United States; the present print being Plate II. from the latter. The monograph was printed by Armstrong & Co in Boston and features a rare series of bird prints with wonderful landscape backgrounds. The print is borded and protected by archival mylar. The referring textpage is affixed in verso. The lithograph is mounted on heavier paper, image is bright and clean in fine condition. fn.
