Item Details

New Map of Georgia, with Part of Carolina, Florida and Louisiana.

London: (n.p.), 1748.

Though this is one of the earliest maps to focus on Georgia, it is most notable for being the only map to label the state west of the Mississippi. This map first appeared in John Harris' "Complete Collection of Voyages and Travels" in the 1744-48 edition in which he added a section on the history of Georgia. This large map was one of the best for this region during its time, offering great detail of the coastal settlements, the various Indian tribes and the major trading routes. Map is beautifully hand colored with new left and right margins from where the map had been previously trimmed to the neat line. Map is clean and free of foxing. Included with this map is a nicely bound facsimile of the text from Harris' Voyages pertaining to the Georgia Colony. vg/--.
