N.C. Wyeth 1882 - 1945 Newell Convers Wyeth was destined for his work. A born artist, Wyeth's mother was acquainted with American literary giants Henry David Thoreau and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and he attended Howard Pyle's School of Art. Much of his early work focused on the American West, but beginning in 1911 with Treasure Island he did a number of illustrations for classic literature. His fame in the artistic and literary communities only grew until his death in 1945, and he remains one of America's great illustrators. |
