Black and white engraving of Andrew's portrait of James A. Garfield, the twentieth president of the United States (March 1881-September 1881). Prior to his presidency, he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio. He was assassinated six months into his presidency. Plate is 8 x 13 1/2 inches, margin is 16 x 19 1/2 iches, originally published in The White House Gallery of Official Portraits of the Presidents,contains a fac-similie of Garfield's signature to the bottom of the plate, foxing to the bottom of the margin and markings to the left margin, text to the back of concerning Garfield's life and political carrer, also published in The White House Gallery of Official Portraits of the Presidents, 16 x 19 1/2 inches, text written by Charles Dick, former Congressman from Ohio, chipping to the left and right side of the margins, binding holes to the left side of the margin, foxing to the left edge and the top edge, staining to the bottom left corner of the margin, two light vignettes to the margin in a sepia tone. vg+/--.
