The Puritan Press Co.
1894.
A black and white engraving of Lieutenant General Winfield Scott published in "Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War," 16 1/4 x 11 1/2 inches. Lieutenant General Winfield Scott is notorious for his proposal of the Anaconda Plan which significantly contributed to the Union's victory. Lieutenant General Scott proposed that the Union siege the Confederacy by blockading its ports and slowly suffocating the South, weakening its accessablity to supplies. Lieutenant General Scott is also notorious for being the longest man in American History to serve on active duty as a general. The top reads "Fort Sumter, 1861" and indicates that it is page 35 in the top right corner, the title appears to the bottom of the image, slight foxing to the bottom edge, minor chipping to the bottom left corner, else in nearly fine condition given the age. There is a scene of the Steamship "Star of the West" to the rear of the print. nrfn/--.
