Roosevelt, Theodore
Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed
The White House, Washington:
Nov, 21st 1908.
An authentic typewritten letter signed by Theodore Roosevelt. The 26th President of the United States addresses the American author Melville D. Post, who appears to have sent him a copy of his book "The Correction of Destinies". One page, on the letterhead of the White House, Washington (7" x 8 3/4"). Includes the envelope that has carefully been opened with a paper knife; the stamp as well as the address is unharmed. Return address simply states "The White House". The transcript reads: "November 21, 1908. My dear Mr. Post: Some of the stories in the "Correction of Destinies" I have already read and have enjoyed to the full, so I can say with entire sincerity that I genuinely look forward to reading the book. I shall take it up to-night and probably you will have on your conscience the fact that for one evening I have scandalously neglected my duties. With many thanks, and regards, believe me, Sincerely yours, Theodore Roosevelt". The President's bold signature is penciled down right below the typewritten text. Within the text the title of the book is misspelled as "The Character of Destinies". It appears that President Roosevelt himself corrected that mistake as the word "Character" is crossed out and "Correction" is written right above in the same pencilled handwriting as the signature. The letter shows only light smudging mainly to blank margins, else it is bright and clean in very good+ condition. A very unique collectible, considering the President's humorous remark about "scandalously neglecting his duties". vg+.
