A black and white engraving of a scene of the United States Army crossing the Long Bridge over the Potomac River published in "Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War," 16 1/4 x 11 1/2 inches. The Long Bridge connects Alexandria, Virginia and Washington D.C. With the outbreak of the Civil War, the bridge became increasingly militarily important. Therefore, On May 24, 1861 the Union Army occupied the bridge in order to use it as a railway to transport supplies. The text to the left states "Eastern Virginia, Missouri, and Western Virginia" the top left indicates that it is page 137, chipping to the bottom of the print, mild foxing to the top right corner, else in very good condition. There is a portrait of John T. Greble to the rear of the print. vg+/--.
