Author Biography
Carl Hiaasen
Carl Hiaasen (1953- ) was born and raised in Florida, where he attended the University of Florida. Following his graduation he began writing for the Miami Herald in 1985. He continues his column in the Herald, but beginning in 1981 he began co-authoring novels with fellow journalist Bill Montalbano, and after three works began his solo career in 1986 with Tourist Season. This was to mark the beginning of a highly successful career writing a unique brand of mystery infused with Hiaasen's trademark sense of humor. His impressive career now spans over 20 works, including a highly successful venture into Young Adult literature, Hoot, which won the Newbery Award in 2003 and was made into a movie. This is a testament to Hiaasen's writing ability and massive popular appeal.
