Signed Calvin Coolidge Letter to Founder of Oldsmobile
Washington:
1/9/1924.
(Calvin Coolidge Typed Letter Signed) An interesting letter and connection between two famous American figures. This is a typed letter with a clear, precise signature by President Calvin Coolidge addressed to Mr. Ranson E. Olds, founder of Oldsmobile. The letter is an interesting example of old school diplomacy, essentially giving Mr. Olds carte blanche with the United States' overseas diplomats and consular officials. The letter reads: My dear Mr. Olds: You told me this morning of your approaching trip abroad and I am writing to wish you a most pleasurable and satisfactory visit. I am quite sure that if you will present this letter to any of the Diplomatic or Consular Officers of the United States they will be glad to extend to you any courtesy or assistance in their power, should occasion arise for you to call upon them. Very truly yours, (signed) Calvin Coolidge; Mr. Ransom E. Olds, Capital National Bank, Lansing, Michigan. Calvin Coolidge was the 30th President of the United States, from 1923-1929. The letter, which is on White House stationary, measures approximately 9" x 7" and is in very good condition. There is some residue from another sheet of paper to the back.
